Monterey Zoo's Walk with the Animals tour is an all day experience that a true animal lover will never forget. It is the highest level of contact with the animals that we offer, catered and designed just for you! Feeding time for the Big Cats at Monterey Zoo is one of the most exciting activities at the zoo, even for our volunteers and trainers and you can be a part of it! You will see first hand how instinctual behavior takes over, and why safety and training protocols are so critical. Crunch Time is fun, exciting and extremely educational. Tour times are announced daily but generally they happen between 4:30 and 5:00 PM, lasting 30 to 45 minutes. Another day ending event that our keepers look forward to is putting Monterey Zoo's Rhino to bed. This involves separating them for the evening from their several habitat mates to include our zebra and water buffalo. Depending on the moods and hunger drive of all, this can take 30 minutes or perhaps an hour... but were there until its done and the longer it takes, the more exciting it can often be. You're invited to join us.

Once separated, you'll learn about the many ingredients that went into making our rhino facility the state of the art zoological facility it is for rhinos today as well as the conservation needs of rhinos.
